Astigmatism may be present alone or in combination with myopia or hyperopia. It usually results when the surface curvature of the cornea is shaped like the side of a football rather than its proper shape, the side of a round ball. Light entering the eye through the cornea will converge over a range, with no clear point of focus. Astigmatism causes blurred or distorted vision at all distances.
