Preparation For Cataract Surgery

Once you and Dr. Steinert have decided to have your cataract removed, a convenient
surgery dateis scheduled. A list of preoperative instructions is provided at this time.

If you and Dr. Steinert have decided to use an intraocular lens as a means of improving vision, special testing, including ultrasound evaluation, may be performed at our office.

Ultrasound Evaluation and Keratometry

The appropriate intraocular lens power for your eye must be determined prior to your cataract surgery. An examination of critical importance is the measurement of the length of the eye using painless ultrasound techniques. The corneal curvature, a measure of the refractive power of the cornea, is also determined using a keratometer. This and other information is entered into a computer programmed to calculate your correct implant power.

Normal glasses, as opposed to cataract glasses, are still usually worn after implant surgery for accurate fine focusing at far and near distances.
