PRK was the first excimer laser treatment developed for vision correction. PRK is an outpatient corneal surgery that can reduce or correct mild to moderate myopia. This
is done with the use of a computer-controlled laser, which precisely reshapes the surface of the cornea to improve vision.
PRK is the preferred technique in certain circumstances, particularly in patients who are detected to have loose adhesion of the surface cells (epithelium) to the underlying cornea. Because PRK patients have more initial discomfort (generally well controlled with numbing eye drops) and slower recovery of vision, as well as some technical differences that sometimes occur in the healing response of the cornea, the LASIK procedure is now selected by over 99% of our patients.
To schedule a complementary evaluation for PRK, call Dr. Steinert’s office at
949-824-2020. Dr. Steinert’s eye care team will determine if PRK or an alternative refractive surgical procedure is right for you.
