AM I A CANDIDATE
FOR LASIK

LASIK modifies the curvature of the cornea so that light rays are properly focused on the retina to achieve a sharp, clear image. LASIK surgery with Dr. Steinert is a simple procedure.

Bilateral Treatment
Bilateral Treatment. Due to the high degree of reliability of the LASIK procedure and the quick recovery time, it is possible for patients to have both eyes treated in one session. Other benefits of bilateral treatment include convenience and minimized time away from work or home. Also, it is difficult to function when only one eye has been treated. Several large studies have shown no increased risk when both eyes are treated on the same day. The risk of a late-onset complication that is not evident at the time of treatment and then affects both eyes is very low, but can never be completely eliminated.

Treatment of one eye at a time is always an option. However, many patients cannot see comfortably with a spectacle lens correction in one eye and no prescription in the other.
A contact lens may be used in the untreated eye immediately after treatment of the first
eye. Soft contact lenses must be discontinued at least three days prior to treatment of
the second eye and rigid contact lenses must be discontinued two weeks before treatment.

Results
Most patients inquire about our laser surgery results. At the time of your evaluation, please ask us about our current statistics. The results vary based the amount of correction that is being attempted. Dr. Steinert is an international consultant and recognized leader in refractive, corneal and cataract surgery. His has conducted numerous, high-profile research studies and remains at the forefront of innovative developments in refractive surgery.

Enhancement procedures
One of the most attractive aspects of LASIK is our ability to lift the flap and perform an enhancement procedure, when necessary. We cannot assure you of a perfect result, because biologic tissue responds differently from eye to eye. We do make every effort to obtain the result that matters most -- freedom from dependency on glasses or contact lenses for most everyday activities. If an enhancement procedure has a reasonable chance of helping you, we will offer you this option.
