Refractive Surgery With Dr. Steinert
Dr. Steinert’s eye practice is structured as a team approach to optimize your eye health care and to provide you with the best refractive surgical results. Your initial visit to our office includes a comprehensive eye examination and specialized testing to design a treatment plan for your individual needs.
You will meet Dr. Steinert at this initial consultation or prior to your refractive surgery, whichever is most convenient for you. Your optometrist and an experienced technician gather your medical information and eye measurements to determine if you are a refractive surgery candidate. The examination and discussion with the doctor takes several hours and includes dilation of the pupils. You should not plan to drive home alone after the examination.
The special tests performed during your consultation include:
- A refraction or measurement of the optics of your eye
- An examination of your cornea (the clear dome shaped window at the front of
the eye) using Corneal Topography. A computerized image maps the curvature
of the cornea similar to a geological relief map (see example at above) The color
represent elevations of corneal curvature. Corneal topography results are essential
in determining which refractive surgical procedure is best for correcting your
refractive error.
The topography map shown above is from a LASIK candidate.
His map indicates an appropriate pattern for laser correction of nearsightedness
combined with astigmatism.
- A dilated refraction to verify your prescription.
- A comprehensive discussion of your individual eye health and your refractive surgery options.
