Choosing A Refractive Surgeon

Most people value their vision higher than any aspect of their health. The decision to undertake laser vision correction is a major commitment. Choosing the surgeon to whom
you entrust your eyes is the next most important step.

Some patients are tempted by “discount” offers. However, numerous studies have demonstrated that outcomes improve with increased surgeon experience. These studies suggest that surgeons who have performed a minimum of 500, and preferably 1000, LASIK procedures have better results, on the average. As one of the innovators in this field, Dr. Steinert has now performed over 18,000 LASIK procedures. He began laboratory work on excimer laser technology in 1983 and treated some of the first patients in the United States, beginning in 1989.

Beyond sheer volume, however, the entire team involved in your eye care is critical to the ultimate outcome. The surgeon, optometrist, clinical technicians, and laser nurse all play
major roles in your surgical outcome. Our team is strictly dedicated to the highest quality
care and patient satisfaction. We track our outcomes on a computer database in order to
obtain ongoing continuous quality improvement.

Last year, the ABC News program “20/20” ran a segment about LASIK, emphasizing the importance of choosing a quality surgeon. We were pleased that ABC chose to highlight
Dr. Steinert as such a surgeon.
