Topical Anesthesia

Topical anesthesia is a technique used to numb the eye prior to cataract surgery. Rather
than traditional needle injections in and around the eye, a few anesthetic drops are applied topically to numb the eye.

This technique offers several advantages. Cataract surgery is virtually painless. Patients
recover faster and experience less discomfort, less bruising and less bleeding around the
eye during and after surgery. After surgery, patients are no longer required to wear an eye patch and can see clearly almost immediately. Topical anesthesia has been proven effective and safe, as it reduces risks related to needle injections.
